OMG, LA is Like, Totally in a Federal Drama Spiral Right Now. Okay bestie, buckle up because Los Angeles is like so not vibing with the federal government right now. It’s giving major power struggle, with a splash of protest chic, and like… girl, there’s actual tear gas and troops on the streets.
So, what’s the 411? ICE (you know, those immigration guys that nobody invited to the party) started doing these mega raids across LA—like downtown, the fashion district, even random suburbs like Paramount and Compton. Super aggressive, totally not cute. People got arrested. People freaked out. And then the whole city was like: not today, Satan.
So obviously, protests popped off. People were waving Mexican flags, chanting, and yeah—some threw stuff. Feds hit back with rubber bullets and tear gas. CLASSY.
Federal vs. State: Okay, so here’s where it gets like sooo juicy.
President Trump (ugh, again) literally federalized 2,000 National Guard troops and sent them to LA. He said it was to “protect federal facilities” and stop “lawlessness” — but like, sweetie, you just escalated a state issue to a full-on federal flex.
And girl, Governor Gavin Newsom was like, “EXCUSE me??” He legit said the White House was trying to stage a “spectacle” and that California could totally handle its own mess. Iconic.
Then LA Mayor Karen Bass swooped in with a whole mood: “Federal troops? In MY city? Without asking?” She basically told them to take several seats and let the locals handle it.
Let’s get legal, legal. So under normal circumstances, the governor controls the National Guard. But like, Trump didn’t even bother with the Insurrection Act. Instead, he used something called Title 10—and honey, even legal experts are like, uhhh is that even legal??
It’s kind of like if your ex showed up uninvited and said he was in charge now because he “felt like it.” No thank you.
Military on Main Street?! Yeah, so the Guard is already here. They rolled up this morning in armored trucks like it’s the sequel to “Mad Max: LA Edition.” Troops are standing around the Hall of Justice and some downtown spots like it’s normal.
Also?? The Marines at Camp Pendleton are apparently “on high alert,” which is totally against the Posse Comitatus Act—a big fancy rule that’s like, “the military isn’t supposed to play mall cop in your neighborhood.”
He said, she said…
Gov. Newsom:
“Don’t let the federal government bait you. Stay peaceful. Be fierce but like, non-violent fierce.”
Mayor Bass:
“Violence is not cute. Protest with purpose.”
White House:
“This is an invasion.”
Okay… dramatic much??
Bottom line, So yeah, this isn’t just like another LA protest—it’s like, THE moment when California and the federal government are in a full-on breakup fight in public. And we’re all just sitting here with popcorn, watching them fight over who gets custody of the National Guard.
At stake? Literally, who’s in charge—like, in a legal and constitutional sense. But also? How we protest, how we protect communities, and how we define what’s “peaceful” vs. what’s “unlawful.”
So yeah. Democracy’s messy. But at least LA’s fighting for her glam back.
XOXO,
