Let’s talk about Elon Musk. You know, the billionaire who’s always in the headlines for, like, inventing rockets, tweeting, or naming his kids something unpronounceable? Well, now he’s in the spotlight for something way more controversial: a gesture he made at Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025. And honestly, the drama is just too much to handle.

Here’s the tea: Musk, who was attending the event, made a gesture that, like, totally set the internet on fire. He extended his arm out at an upward angle, palm facing down, and then he turned around and repeated the motion toward the other side. He even said, “My heart goes out to you.” Sweet, right? But, um, maybe not! Some people immediately compared it to a Nazi salute.

So, like, obviously, people on social media had thoughts. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was, like, “Is this for real?” Jerry Nadler jumped in too, and historian Ruth Ben-Ghiat didn’t hold back, saying it totally looked like a Nazi or Roman salute. Like, yikes!

And Musk, being Musk, responded on his platform, X (formerly Twitter, RIP Twitter). He was all, “The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired.” Like, okay, Elon, but that’s not exactly a denial, you know?

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) also chimed in, saying Musk’s gesture seemed more like “an awkward moment of enthusiasm” than, like, a deliberate Nazi salute. But, like, here’s the plot twist: even though Musk probably didn’t mean it that way, right-wing extremist groups apparently, like, loved it. Um, what?

According to reports, these groups are embracing the gesture no matter what Musk says. So, like, this whole thing just got even messier.

The video of Musk doing this went totally viral. People were debating whether it was a heartfelt moment or something way more sinister. Some were like, “C’mon, it’s Elon being Elon,” while others were all, “Nope, this is super problematic.”

Musk hasn’t really clarified anything beyond his “sooo tired” comment, and the ADL seems to be giving him the benefit of the doubt. But, like, that hasn’t stopped people from talking. Whether it was just an innocent gesture or something else, the drama surrounding it is so on-brand for Musk.

Plus, Trump can’t be happy about all the attention it’s been getting, y’know? Especially in the first few days of him taking office. Could this be the beginning of the great rift?!

Stay tuned, because, like, you just know there’s gonna be more to this story. And honestly? We’re all here for the tea.
