So, like, OMG, California is, like, totally on fire again, and it’s beyond tragic. Right now, there are these wildfires sweeping through SoCal, especially around Los Angeles, and it’s just devastating. I mean, we’re talking about at least five people who have, like, tragically passed away, and over 2,000 homes and buildings have been totally destroyed.
The worst one? It’s called the Palisades Fire, and it’s already burned, like, 17,000 acres! Can you even imagine? That’s like 17,000 football fields. And the poor firefighters—there are, like, 7,500 of them out there trying to stop this thing, but it’s only making things worse because of those crazy Santa Ana winds, which are literally, like, 100 mph! It’s so scary that they can’t even contain any of it right now. Like, zero percent.
About 130,000 people had to evacuate already. That’s, like, an entire city. And another 100,000 are on high alert. Imagine having to just, like, grab your stuff and leave your home. A lot of people didn’t even have time to pack anything, so they’re staying in shelters or crashing with friends. I mean, losing your home and all your stuff? Heartbreaking.
And let’s not even talk about the power outages. Over 1.5 million people have no electricity right now. No Wi-Fi, no Netflix, no AC. Like, how are people even surviving? Plus, the air quality is totally gross, with the index hitting, like, over 200 in some areas. That’s, like, “don’t even breathe” territory.
The damage? Oh, just a casual $52 to $57 billion. Like, with a B! And it’s hitting super bougie areas like Malibu and Santa Monica. Even the entertainment industry is affected—award shows postponed, productions stopped. It’s like Hollywood itself is under attack.
President Biden declared it a major disaster, so now the federal government is helping out. But, like, even with all this support, it’s just such a huge mess. And people are, like, saying the fires are totally unpredictable because of the winds.
Like, here’s where it gets so real.
- Ana Mostarac, this poor visitor to LA, tried to cancel her Airbnb because, duh, the fire was coming. At first, they were like, “No refunds, sorry,” but then she, like, posted about it online, and Airbnb finally gave her a full refund. Oh, and now they’re, like, offering free temporary housing to people displaced by the fires. Took them long enough!
- Adria Kloke had to evacuate her Pacific Palisades home, and she said it was just so terrifying. Like, can you imagine flames coming at you, and you only have minutes to leave? So scary.
- Even Jamie Lee Curtis is feeling it. She posted that her community—and maybe even her house—could burn. She’s, like, begging people to listen to firefighters and help each other out. Love her for that.
- And then there’s Bethenny Frankel. She’s out here being a total queen with her charity, BStrong. They’re giving cash cards and supplies to people who’ve lost their homes.
Right now, it’s all about, like, staying safe and helping each other out. If you’re in the area, listen to evacuation orders, okay? And the rest of us need to, like, support however we can—donate, share resources, whatever.
So yeah, it’s a total disaster, but Californians are tough, and they’ll, like, totally get through this. Let’s just hope those winds chill out soon.
XOXO,
