Oh my gosh, New Orleans’ New Year’s celebrations, like, totally took a horrible turn early this morning. So, this white pickup truck legit plowed into a crowd on Bourbon Street, and it’s so devastating—10 people were killed, and over 30 got hurt.

After the crash, the driver got out of the truck and started firing an assault rifle, which is, like, so terrifying, right? Police responded super fast, though, and shot him, but sadly, two officers were injured during the chaos. Thankfully, they’re both stable now and sounds like they’re gonna be okay.

“This was a terrorist attack,” Mayor LaToya Cantrell said at a press conference. “The safety of our city and its people is our top priority, and we are working with federal and state authorities to investigate every detail of this heinous act.”

The attack happened around 3:15 a.m. in the French Quarter, which was, like, still packed with people celebrating. Witnesses described total chaos. “It was like something out of a nightmare,” said one, who was just hanging out with her friends nearby.

Just last week, we reported about a similar incident in Germany where five people were killed. We hope this isn’t a new trend because it’s just totally not on!

And now the FBI is totally taking over the investigation because they’re treating this as a terrorist attack. Oh, and they also found these super sketchy explosives in the area. FBI spokesperson Kelly Martin was, like, “We are evaluating all evidence, including the driver’s potential motives and any possible affiliations.” They are working to uncover more details about the driver’s background and potential motives.

Here’s the thing, though—the Sugar Bowl (you know, that huge football game between Georgia and Notre Dame?) is still happening at the Superdome tonight. The committee was, like, “Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. We are in close contact with authorities and will ensure that safety measures are in place for all attendees.”

President Joe Biden even got involved. He was, like, “The federal government stands with the people of New Orleans during this difficult time,” which is, like, so reassuring.

Police Chief Michelle Woodfork is, like, totally asking for help from anyone who might know anything. “This is an active investigation, and every piece of information matters,” she said.

Like, the whole city is, like, super on edge right now, and extra security is everywhere. It’s just, like, so sad and scary that something like this happened when people were, like, just out celebrating the New Year. Let’s all keep the victims and their families in our hearts.
