Oh my gosh, like, huge news! Donald Trump, now the President-elect (again!), just snagged Time magazine’s Person of the Year for 2024—his second time, btw. Yeah, he totally won this honor before back in 2016 after surprising everyone by beating Hillary Clinton. This time around, he beat Kamala Harris, who replaced Joe Biden, in a super intense election, full of drama and mega voter turnout. Seriously, it’s like a reality show, but, you know, actual history.
So, let’s talk about why Time went with him again. Sam Jacobs, Time‘s editor in chief, said, “For marshaling a comeback of historic proportions, for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency and altering America’s role in the world, Donald Trump is TIME’s 2024 Person of the Year,” Mr. Jacob’s went on to say, “Donald Trump’s ability to dominate political discourse and mobilize millions of voters underscores his unparalleled impact.” Like, love him or not, he’s got a grip on the political convo and his base is so loyal. It’s wild.
Trump, of course, had something to say (duh). He posted on Truth Social, “This recognition isn’t just about me—it’s about a movement of millions of hardworking Americans.” He’s all about that “America First” vibe. And honestly, his base is eating it up. Historian Douglas Brinkley chimed in with, “Whether you support him or not, Trump has reshaped the Republican Party and the political landscape.”
On the flip side, not everyone’s a fan, obvi. Dr. Christina Greer, a political analyst, was like, “Recognizing Trump in this way underscores the polarization and challenges our democracy faces.” So, yeah, not everyone is vibing with the choice.
And, OMG, this comes as he’s gearing up for Round Two in the White House in January 2025. He’s promising to double down on immigration reform, economic growth, and big trade moves. Rumor has it that some world leaders are already low-key bracing for more Trump waves. President Macron called it “fascinating,” and China is, like, side-eyeing hard at those trade ideas.
So, yeah, get ready, because Trump’s back in the spotlight—big time. And according to Time, he’s still shaping history, like it or not.
XOXO,
