Oh my gosh, like, totally sad news from Sydney, babes! So, like, Sphen, who was, like, this super famous penguin, and one half of, like, the most adorbs same-sex penguin couple ever, just passed away! Ugh, so heartbreaking, right? He was almost 12, which is, like, super old for a gentoo penguin, but still, it’s, like, totally devastating!

So Sphen and his BFF, Magic, became total celebs back in 2018 when they started, like, bringing each other pebbles and stuff, which is penguin flirting, FYI. And they, like, even made this super cute nest together and hatched a chick (from an adopted egg), which is, like, major because, like, they’re both dudes!

They named their first little chick Sphengic, and then, like, they had another one, Clancy, in 2020. I mean, talk about couple goals, am I right? And, like, everyone was so obsessed with them, they even had, like, a float in the Sydney Mardi Gras parade! How iconic is that? Plus, they were in this Netflix show Atypical, so they were legit stars.

But now, like, poor Magic is all alone, and, like, the staff at the aquarium are, like, totally helping him through it. They even, like, let him see Sphen’s body so he could, like, understand what happened, which is so sad but also, like, super important, you know? And then, like, Magic started singing, and the whole penguin crew, like, joined in. So cute, but, like, so sad.

Now, the aquarium is, like, focusing on Magic, ’cause he’s, like, gotta get ready for the first breeding season without his penguin soulmate. Ugh, my heart can’t even. But, like, Sphen and Magic have totally shown the world that love is universal and not just a human thing or a male-female thing, you know? They’ve inspired so many people, and even helped with conservation efforts and stuff.

So even though this is super sad, Sphen’s legacy is, like, totally gonna live on.

XOXO,
