Okay sooo remember that whole Ice Bucket Challenge thing from, like, 2014? When literally everyone and their dog was dumping freezing cold water on their heads for ALS? Well… it’s back, babes — but with a totally new vibe. And this time, it’s all about mental health.
It’s called the #MindOverIce Challenge and, like, people are once again soaking themselves in icy water — but now they’re also spilling the tea on stuff like anxiety, depression, and why therapy is, like, so fetch.
So far, we’ve seen queens like Zendaya be like, “Mental health isn’t a weakness, babe — we NEED to talk about it,” and then BOOM — ice water to the head. She handled it like a pro, obvi.
Even The Rock got in on it (ugh, we love a vulnerable muscle man), saying, “I’ve battled anxiety. I’ve been there. Let’s stop pretending we’re all okay when we’re not.” And then he literally got soaked. Like, soaked soaked.
And Simone Biles? Iconic. She was like, “Taking time off for your mental health isn’t quitting. It’s called self-care, sweetie.”
The whole thing started with a bunch of, like, super smart college kids in Boston who were like, “Why don’t we do this again but for something our generation actually cries about in the shower over?” And honestly? Relatable.
So far, it’s raised over $6.2 million — yes girl, MILLION — for amazing orgs like NAMI, The Trevor Project, and Mind, all of which are, like, doing major work to help people find support, therapy, and hope.
According to Dr. Angela Reyes — she’s like, a big deal in psychology or whatever — “The shock of ice water is kind of like a panic attack — sudden, intense, and totally real. Watching others speak out and get drenched sends a powerful message: you’re not alone, and there’s help.”
And the hashtag? #MindOverIce is blowing UP on TikTok and Insta. Like, if you haven’t seen someone scream while getting iced and talking about their therapist, where have you even been?
So yeah — the vibes are freezing, but the message is: mental health matters, and like, no shame in your self-care game.
Now excuse me while I go fill a bucket.
XOXO,
