OMG, so like, the drama with JD Vance and Greenland is just chef’s kiss political chaos. So, picture this: it’s March 2025, and Vice President JD Vance is all set to take a trip to Greenland. Except—plot twist—Greenland is like, um, who even invited you? And Denmark? Yeah, they’re not amused. Like, at all.
So let’s rewind a sec. Back in the Trump era, you might remember that whole thing where he wanted to buy Greenland? Yeah, well, fast-forward to now, and JD Vance is out here basically implying that maybe the U.S. should just take better care of Greenland than Denmark does. He visits the U.S. Pituffik Space Base on March 28, which, like, technically is in Greenland, but it’s an American military installation, so it’s not exactly like he was welcomed with open arms by the locals. And while he’s there, he totally calls out Denmark for “underinvesting” in Greenland’s security. Denmark is like, excuse you, and Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen straight-up tells him that this is not how you talk to allies. Like, Vance rolled up and basically insulted their entire policy on Greenland.
And then there’s the whole mess with the invitations—or, um, the lack of invitations. See, the Trump administration had been hyping up this trip, making it seem like Greenland was all excited to have Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, come visit. But then, on March 24, Greenland’s government was like, nope, we never invited y’all, what are you talking about? And then, just to make things even more awkward, a local tourism business, Tupilak Travel, had originally agreed to host Usha Vance for a little cultural tour. But once it became clear that this whole visit was turning into a geopolitical mess, they straight-up rescinded the invite on March 27. Like, sorry, girl, but we don’t need this drama.
So with all of that happening, JD Vance had to tweak his plans big time. Instead of doing any real meet-and-greets or, you know, anything remotely diplomatic, he just kept his visit contained to the Pituffik Space Base, where he could avoid actual Greenlanders who were less than thrilled about his presence.
And oh, the fallout. Denmark was furious. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen basically had to go into damage control mode, saying she would personally visit Greenland to reaffirm Denmark’s commitment and make it super clear that the island wasn’t just up for grabs. And back in the U.S., Vance was getting dragged for how badly he handled the whole thing. There were even calls for him to resign, with critics saying this was just another example of how messy things are in the Trump administration.
So now, we’re left with a whole bunch of hurt feelings, political tension, and Greenland being all, “Can you just leave us alone?” And honestly? Iconic.
XOXO,
