So, like, Tesla just wrote this super serious letter to the U.S. Trade Representative, and honestly, they are not vibing with the whole tariff situation. Like, at all. In the letter—dated March 11, 2025, btw—they were basically like, “Uh, hello?? These tariffs are totally bad for us and other American companies, duh!”
Okay, so here’s the sitch: Tesla is super worried that these trade policies could lead to, like, major retaliation from other countries. And when that happens? Boom. Instant counter-tariffs on electric cars that Tesla is trying to sell overseas. And, like, even though Tesla is totally trying to keep things local, some stuff they just have to get from other countries, which means their costs could go up, and that’s, like, so not cute.
So Tesla is begging the government to, like, chill and not just slap these tariffs on without a plan. They’re basically saying, “Um, maybe ease into it, so we don’t, like, totally wreck American companies??” And it’s not just Tesla saying this—tons of companies are like, “Hi, yes, this is a disaster waiting to happen.” They’re all scared about prices going up, production getting totally messed up, and, like, people losing jobs. Which, obvi, is not the vibe.
And, like, not to be dramatic, but this could not be happening at a worse time for Tesla. Their stock has been, like, totally struggling this year, and Elon Musk has been all over the place with his political takes. He’s, like, tight with Trump, but now Tesla is out here basically telling Trump’s people, “Hey, uh, your policies might totally screw us over, sooo… could we not?”
So yeah, Tesla’s letter is a total red flag about how these tariffs could, like, accidentally mess up American businesses. Will the government listen? Or are we about to see a full-blown trade war mess? Idk, but, like, yikes.
